Join us for "ABA 101 - What is ABA?", a workshop designed for parents and caregivers to gain a foundational understanding of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). This session will provide an overview of ABA concepts and strategies used in behavioural intervention. Participants will learn about the functions of behaviour, the importance of positive reinforcement, and effective strategies to address challenging behaviours based on their functions.

During the workshop, we will explore:

  • Functions of Behaviour: Understanding why behaviours occur and how to identify their purposes.

  • Positive Reinforcement: Learning how to use reinforcement to encourage desirable behaviours.

  • Function-Based Strategies: Developing tailored strategies to address challenging behaviours by considering their functions.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped with:

  • New function-based strategies to manage challenging behaviours.

  • Skills to assess antecedents (triggers) and consequences of behaviours.

  • Techniques to effectively utilize positive reinforcement.

Calling all Adventurers! Explore fantasy worlds, complete quests, and make friends in this 4-week Dungeons & Dragons group! 🐲

Embark on an epic journey in our 4-week Dungeons & Dragons group, designed specifically for teens aged 13-17 with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and registered with the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). This immersive, fantasy role-playing game offers a unique opportunity to explore diverse worlds—be it medieval, outer space, or dystopian—as a fantasy character of your choice, such as an Elf, Barbarian, Orc, or Halfling.

Guided by a Dungeon Master, you and your teammates will work together as a 'party' to complete quests, missions, and adventures. Whether you're overcoming an evil three-headed being, fighting to save humanity from brain-harvesting aliens, enjoying a homecooked meal in a local tavern, or solving the mystery of the missing scroll, the choices and adventures are endless. Your fate is left in the hands of the dice!

Players do not need to bring anything to join, but are welcome to bring their own dice and/or character sheets if they have them. This group is a fantastic way for teens to develop social skills, teamwork, and creativity in a supportive and engaging environment.

ABA 101 - What is ABA?

Join us for "ABA 101 - What is ABA?", a workshop designed for parents and caregivers to gain a foundational understanding of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). This session will provide an overview of ABA concepts and strategies used in behavioural intervention. Participants will learn about the functions of behaviour, the importance of positive reinforcement, and effective strategies to address challenging behaviours based on their functions.

During the workshop, we will explore:

  • Functions of Behaviour: Understanding why behaviours occur and how to identify their purposes.

  • Positive Reinforcement: Learning how to use reinforcement to encourage desirable behaviours.

  • Function-Based Strategies: Developing tailored strategies to address challenging behaviours by considering their functions.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped with:

  • New function-based strategies to manage challenging behaviours.

  • Skills to assess antecedents (triggers) and consequences of behaviours.

  • Techniques to effectively utilize positive reinforcement.

Tech Requirements: Participants must have the ability to connect to Microsoft Teams using a computer or handheld device, such as a tablet or cellphone.

Dungeons & Dragons Club for Teens

Calling all Adventurers! Explore fantasy worlds, complete quests, and make friends in this 4-week Dungeons & Dragons group! 🐲

Embark on an epic journey in our 4-week Dungeons & Dragons group, designed specifically for teens aged 13-17 with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and registered with the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). This immersive, fantasy role-playing game offers a unique opportunity to explore diverse worlds—be it medieval, outer space, or dystopian—as a fantasy character of your choice, such as an Elf, Barbarian, Orc, or Halfling.

Guided by a Dungeon Master, you and your teammates will work together as a 'party' to complete quests, missions, and adventures. Whether you're overcoming an evil three-headed being, fighting to save humanity from brain-harvesting aliens, enjoying a homecooked meal in a local tavern, or solving the mystery of the missing scroll, the choices and adventures are endless. Your fate is left in the hands of the dice!

Event Details:

  • Dates: Tuesdays in February! February 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th

  • Time: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

  • Location: Main Office @ 150 O'Carroll Ave, Ptbo (Please park in the lower parking lot and proceed to the side doors labeled "AUTISM SERVICES")

  • Participants: Maximum of 10 participants

  • Requirements: OAP number required for registration

Players do not need to bring anything to join, but are welcome to bring their own dice and/or character sheets if they have them. This group is a fantastic way for teens to develop social skills, teamwork, and creativity in a supportive and engaging environment.

This evening is designed to provide a supportive and fun environment where siblings of children with ASD can connect, learn, and focus on themselves.

During this event, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Learn About Autism: Gain a better understanding of your sibling's condition.

  • Support Your Sibling: Discover ways to support your sibling while taking care of your own feelings.

  • Self-Care Activities: Enjoy activities that help you recharge and have fun.

  • Share Experiences: Connect with other siblings, share your experiences, and feel understood.

This event is for parents/caregivers of children and youth enrolled in the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) who are accessing Core Clinical Services and need help submitting their receipts to their OAP portal.

This drop in session is available for parents and caregivers who either need help uploading their receipts to the Access OAP family portal or have questions about their portal. This also provides parents/caregivers with the opportunity to ask Canopy's Social Worker or Family Support Coordinator any questions that they would like to ask. Use of technology is available.

Please note: An OAP number is required for this event.
